Why Did the Lord Jesus Say “The Son of Man Is the Lord of the Sabbath”?

The Bible says, “At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, your disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the sabbath day. But he said to them, ‘But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day’” (Mat 12:1-3, 6-8).

In my belief in the Lord in the past, I merely knew that when He came to do His work, the Lord Jesus didn’t keep the prohibitions of the Sabbath any more from the conversation in the verse between the Lord Jesus and the Pharisees, but I didn’t understand the deeper significance of these words and what people should know about God from this. Finding a Church With the Holy Spirit’s Work and Returning to God’s House

By Ruth, United States

I used to be a genuine atheist, but due to the predestination and orchestrations of the Heaven, after coming to America in 2014, I met and married my husband whose family had been believers in the Lord for generations. Under his influence, I began to believe in the Lord and serve in the church with other sisters.

My Church Was Desolate and Unable to Revive
Gradually, I discovered that the majority of what my pastor was saying was outdated and repetitious, and sometimes he even got off topic, unable to provide for the spiritual life needs of us believers at all. During meetings, most brothers and sisters would doze off, I was no exception, and sometimes I found my pastor’s sermons so dry and would play on my phone to pass the time. Fewer and fewer people came to attend church gatherings, and other believers would only come but just for fun at Christmas, the Mid-Autumn Festival, or the Spring Festival, when there were big shows and dinner parties. Once these holidays passed, the church would become stagnant again. Continue reading “Finding a Church With the Holy Spirit’s Work and Returning to God’s House”

Parable of Jesus—Meaning of the Parable of New Cloth on Old Garment

bible study | church life

By Yaning

One day, after a meeting, a sister asked me, “Brother, the Lord Jesus said, ‘No man puts a piece of a new garment on an old; if otherwise, then both the new makes a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agrees not with the old’ (Luke 5:36). Do you know what this parable means? What does the Lord want to tell us through it?”

Hearing the sister’s questions, I thought that I happened to have some understanding of this parable of the Lord Jesus, so I replied without thinking, “In the Old Testament, the Israelites were required to fast on the day of atonement every year. But as the salvation of the Lord Jesus had come, the old practices were no longer applicable, and people should abide by the new requirements proposed by the Lord. By telling this parable, the Lord Jesus warns us that in our faith in Him, we cannot cling only to the laws of the Old Testament like the Pharisees did, but instead should accept and follow the Lord’s words and act in accordance with His teachings.” Upon hearing my answer, the sister nodded her head, and I also felt gratified for my ability to understand the Lord’s will. How to Deal With Adversity: 3 Ways for Christians

By Mingli, United States

In real life, we often encounter something unpleasant, such as setbacks in our work, our bosses’ criticism, quarrels with our spouses, sudden disasters at home, or bad personal relationships.

How should Christians deal with adversity? Some people often complain and say, “O Lord, I believe in You and expend and sacrifice for You. So why don’t You protect me and my family?”

The Bible says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28). Actually, the Lord allowing such environments to befall us isn’t to make us suffer, but to edify us. It depends on whether we are able to experience. I once complained about God because of my mother’s illness, but through the fellowship of my church brothers and sisters, I knew how to deal with adversity as a Christian. Below, I’d like to fellowship on three paths I’ve summarized; I hope they can be helpful to you. Continue reading “How to Deal With Adversity: 3 Ways for Christians”

God’s word of the day: “The True Story Behind the Work of the Age of Redemption” (Excerpt 1)

My entire management plan, a plan that spans six thousand years, consists of three stages, or three ages: the Age of Law in the beginning; the Age of Grace (which is also the Age of Redemption); and the Age of Kingdom in the last days. My work in these three ages differs in content according to the nature of each age, but at each stage it accords with man’s needs—or, to be more precise, it is done according to the tricks that Satan employs in the war that I wage against it. The purpose of My work is to defeat Satan, to make manifest My wisdom and omnipotence, to expose all of Satan’s tricks, and thereby to save the entire human race, which lives under its domain. In Matthew 5:17, What Does It Mean That Jesus Fulfilled the Law?

The Lord Jesus said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one stroke or one pronunciation mark shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:17–18). Through the Lord Jesus’ words we can know that the work He did was not to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Some people, however, feel perplexed: If the Lord Jesus didn’t come to abolish the law of the Old Testament, then why did He not keep the Sabbath but instead allowed His disciples to pick and eat the heads of grain when they passed through the corn fields? What did the Lord actually mean by saying “fulfill”? How are we to understand His words? Continue reading “In Matthew 5:17, What Does It Mean That Jesus Fulfilled the Law?”

Why Was Jesus Rejected in His Hometown of Nazareth?

When the Lord Jesus came to work in the flesh, He performed many signs and wonders like calming the wind and sea, making the lame walk, and making the blind see. He also spoke many parables such as the parable of the sower, the parable of the net, the parable of the treasure, and so on, telling us the truth in language that was plain and homespun—what the Lord Jesus said and did was sufficient to prove that He was the incarnate flesh of God. But there used to be one thing that confused me: People at that time all personally witnessed the Lord Jesus’ work, so why was it that many of them—even His people in Nazareth—did not acknowledge that the Lord Jesus was the incarnate Christ but instead rejected Him? Just as it is written in the Bible: “And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, And rose up, and thrust Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill where on their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong” (Luke 4:28–29). It was only through a sister’s fellowship one day that I finally came to know the reasons behind this. Now I’d like to communicate with you what I understand. Do You Know How to Never Be Fooled by a False Christ?

By Xiaomin, New Zealand

bible study | lord Jesus

When you hear someone bear witness that the Lord has returned, are you ever concerned, afraid of being misled by a false Christ, so you don’t seek or investigate it?

On the other hand, have you ever thought about the fact that although the Lord Jesus did prophesy that false Christs would rise up to mislead people in the last days, He also clearly told us that He would come again, that we must be ready at all times? If we’re constantly on our guard, wouldn’t it be so easy to just close the door on the Lord? Continue reading “Do You Know How to Never Be Fooled by a False Christ?”

What Does It Mean to Truly Pray?

All believers in God know that praying is the only way through which our spirits can connect with God’s Spirit, and that we cannot practice our faith without it. However, many of us have no idea what true prayer is though we make prayers every day. Perhaps some people might say, “I pray to God every day. In the morning, I entrust the entire day to God in my prayer and express my wishes to Him, begging Him to lead me throughout the day; in the evening, I pray to God confessing my sins. Is it not truly praying to God?” Some say, “Every day I give thanks before meals and express thanks in everything. Am I not truly praying to God?” Still others may say, “In my prayer, I can recite many passages of the Bible, say many nice words and speak for a long time. Isn’t it a true prayer?” Indeed, there is no denying that all these above are prayers made to God, but are they true prayers? Continue reading “What Does It Mean to Truly Pray?”

Do You Know Why the Lord Appears and Works in China Upon His Return?

The prophecies of the Lord’s return have now largely been fulfilled, and so the Lord is likely to have returned already. In all the world, only The Church of Almighty God has always testified that the Lord Jesus has returned and that He has become flesh once again to appear and work in China, thereby fulfilling the Lord Jesus’ prophecy: “For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even to the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be” (Matthew 24:27). Many people find this news hard to believe. They believe that, because God’s last two stages of work were done in Israel and God has never before worked outside the confines of Israel, the Lord will surely return to Israel. They find it inconceivable that the Lord Jesus would appear and work in China. Furthermore, they believe that since China is an atheistic dictatorship and the country which resists God and persecutes Christians the most, they wonder how God could possibly incarnate to appear and work in China. But is this view we hold actually correct? God is the God of all mankind, so could He really only appear and work in Israel? What is the meaning behind God’s appearance and work in China in the last days? We will now explore this issue through fellowship.
